Universal Credit - Another Problem?

We have heard a lot in recent news about Universal Credits, mostly from the point of view of delay in implementing payments to new claimants. Something which has had rather less publicity is the effect that the transition from Universal Credits from other forms of benefit can have upon spousal maintenance, i.e. support payments made between the adults as distinct from child support.

Legal Aid - Waste of Money?

There has recently been some publicity in the press regarding the case of the man who was convicted of killing his child and the sum of 2 million pounds of Legal Aid money is said to have been wasted on legal fees in representing him. Firstly, I understand that the amount involved was not in fact 2 million pounds but it was still a very substantial sum of money.
