Kirwans’ Managing Partner Simon Gibson found himself in demand from the nation’s broadcasters as the nail-biting Liverpool FC deal neared completion.
Simon, a Liverpool fan himself who has acted for fans in a number of cases in the past, was called upon to offer legal expertise as American outfit New England Sports Ventures battled through the courts to emerge victorious.
First up was Sky News which interviewed Simon, who became Kirwans’ Managing Partner earlier this year, live after the 7am news on Friday morning from Liverpool’s Mellwood training ground.
From there, Simon had a mad dash across the city to BBC Radio Merseyside’s studios to take part in an interview with Tony Snell after the 8am news.
Further requests came in thick and fast and by the end of the day, Simon had conducted further interviews for Radio Merseyside programmes and another television broadcast for ITV’s Granada Reports.
Simon worked closely with Liverpool fans after the infamous Champions League ticket shambles in 2007 when more than 40 fans were barred from the Olympic Stadium in Athens ahead of the final against AC Milan.
Reflecting on recent media coverage, Simon said: “It was great to be able to get involved in such an important story for Liverpool Football Club and one which will pave the way for a bright new future after some difficult times on and off the pitch.
“It was a fascinating legal story with many different twists and turns as the drama unfolded and I enjoyed the opportunity to provide a variety of media with instant reaction and commentary.”
