Facebook poll to decide on Gay Village branding

People of Liverpool are being encouraged to vote on their preferred brand for the city’s Stanley Street Quarter using a Facebook poll.

Liverpool City Council and regeneration agency Liverpool Vision hope the winning brand will give the area a stronger identity as the gay village of Liverpool, for local people and visitors to the city.

Brand communications agency, Bolland & Lowe, have created three concepts for the area which is now recognised as the city’s ‘gay village’. The winning logo will appear on promotional materials and be used by local businesses and community groups for the area. It will also be used in the city’s on-going “It’s Liverpool” campaign.

Liverpool Vision’s Head of Area Investment, Jenny Douglas, said: “This is just the start of the exciting changes which will be happening in the Stanley Street Quarter. We are working on a number of projects which will deliver improvements and create greater transparency, visibility and improved access to the quarter.”

Editor of Seen Magazine, Merseyside’s only publication for the LGBT community, Rebecca Keegan, said: “Seen Magazine is honoured to be part of the consultation for the new branding and the eventual winner will compliment the true identity of Liverpool’s LGBT community.

“This is a historic move which will show the world just how vibrant and diverse our gay village is.”

Simon Gibson, Managing Partner of Kirwans, said: “It’s encouraging to see the advancement in the creation of the gay village and its new branding.

“This is an exciting time not only for Liverpool’s LGBT community but for the city as a whole. Undoubtedly this development is a further step in substantially attracting and supporting business opportunities in the city.”

Earlier this year, a Feria Urbanism report said that Liverpool should follow cities such as Brighton, Manchester and Birmingham and develop a recognised gay area as a centre for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. The report also suggested a designated area would help create jobs and attract more business to the area.
