PAUL HUNT
Partner (since 2006)
Head of Family Department
Admitted to the roll: 1981
Advanced member of the Family Law Panel
Member of Resolution

Paul's area of expertise is family law, with particular focus on disputes regarding residence of and contact with children. In addition to children issues, Paul regularly deals with divorce and separation, financial and property disputes, Social Services care orders and domestic violence.

When Paul is not trying to solve family breakdown problems he likes to get on his bicycle to help the environment (and his own waistline), and maintains a long standing enthusiasm for science fiction generally, Doctor Who in particular and confesses to know more about Dalek colour schemes from 1963 onwards than it is right for any normal person to know.

Paul previously worked for many years in Liverpool and St Helens before crossing the river to the Wirral in 2002.

"There are situations in family breakdowns which do not lend themselves to compromise or negotiation and where a firm approach is needed, such as domestic abuse or concealment of assets. In most cases however I see my role as having two levels - firstly I am representing the best interest of the client but secondly within that remit seeking to bring about a settlement with which both parties can live and use as a framework for moving on, whether it be in relation to children or financial disputes. People do not need any help from me to feel any more badly about each other than they do already; I am aware that they do already and that I have a responsibility not to make matters worse - clients have to live with the results and cannot simply close a file. Essentially family breakdowns should present problems to be solved not battles to be fought".
