KIRWANS Solicitors’ Senior Partner David Kirwan is leading the legal battle to save Wirral’s libraries and other cultural facilities from closure.
David, who is also an Independent Councillor in Wirral, has been instructed to act on behalf of Wirral Residents’ Alliance.
Following last night’s decision by the full council to push ahead with the planned closures, Cllr Kirwan is stepping up his campaign to bring a legal action against the local authority.
As many as 50,000 people living in Wirral are believed to have signed petitions in support of the stance taken by Cllr Kirwan and the Wirral Residents Alliance.
David Kirwan said: “In voting in favour of driving through these senseless measures, the council is riding roughshod over the views of its constituents.
Worse still, those councillors who have voted in favour will have to live in the knowledge that they have not only completely disregarded the views of taxpayers but turned Wirral into a cultural wasteland.
Anyone who feels as strongly as we do about the planned closures should not feel the fight is over. On the contrary, with continuing support of those most affected - the elderly, infirm, children - we can bring about a powerful legal challenge and get this scandalous decision overturned.”
